Light a Candle
Asheville- Ruth A.Haines,68, passed away peacefully at home from complications of metastatic breast cancer on Sunday, June 14, 2020. Born June 2nd,1952 in Ohio. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Dorty Haines. She was a graduate of Toledo University and later earned a Master's degree in Social Work at Bowling Green Stae University in Ohio. She was an active Lion and a member of the Valley Springs Lions Club, which she loved dearly. She served several positions, including as club newsletter editor and as President as a member of the Valley Spring Lion Club. She earned several district awards during her position as editor. Also, she was a Guiding Lion, served the board of directors WNC Lions Inc., and was awarded Lion of the Year for her lionism. She was survived by her sister Dolly Czekaj and her brother Charlie Haines. She was passionate about advocating for the Multiple Sclerosis and Visually Impaired/Blind communities. She enjoyed Camp Dogwood and NC Lion VIP Fishing Tournament each year. A celebration of her life will be held at a later to be shared with her family and friends, A feline enthusiast she adored her two cats, Little Bit and Buddy.
